How
We've Evolved since May 2008:
Handball Heaven was founded in 2008 for the purpose of hosting and promoting
a weekend retreat/fisting party called Spring FFling. Our goal was to
keep the venues small and intimate with 50 to 100 people; to keep things
low key and laid back and oriented toward getting to know each other thereby
fostering interrelated fisting circles. We hoped to nurture a sense of
community, shared experiences, and shared meals in a safer-sex, drug-free
environment.
May
2008. Our very first annual retreat, Spring FFling, was held
at the Woods Resort in Guerneville, CA at the Russian River. Sling raffle
raised $900 for Food For Thought, the Sonoma County AIDS food bank.
September
2008, we found a home for monthly fisting parties called Hell
Hole, at the Center for Sex & Culture, thanks to Robert Lawrence and
Carol Queen.
January2009.
Helped develop, plan and participated as a panelist for the Hepatitis
C Forum.
Began hosting monthly Red Hanky Nites at Chaps Bar. www.chapsbarsanfrancisco.com
March 2009. Hosted a beer bust at Chaps for Project Inform, raising $400.
April 2009. The parties moved to their current location,
the playspace above Mr. S Leather, where they have continued to grow.
On September 19th, the Hell Hole parties will celebrate their first anniversary
-- a pretty amazing accomplishment!
May 2009.
Spring FFling II, held this year at the Russian River Resort in Guerneville,
CA. Sling raffle raised over $700 for the Sonoma County AIDS Emergency
Fund.
Memorial Day Weekend. Our first swim suit auction raised another $700
for the AIDS Emergency Fund.
June 2009, we sponsored our first Novice Workshop, a
5 hour hands-in experience containing both discussion and training under
the guidance of experienced coaches.
July 2009. Over the years I've been conducting presentations
on fisting for various groups including Leathermen's Discussion Group,
the SF Ring, the Citadel, Leather Levi Weekend and others. What started
out as a handout that was front-and-back of an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper,
turned into 12 pages. That handout was turned into an 8.5 x 5.5 booklet
entitled, "The Sacred Art of Fisting: Practical Tips & Considerations
for Men Who Engage in Anal Fisting." The Stop AIDS Project generously
provided funding to print 2,000 copies of the booklet, which will debut
on September 24th.
September 19, 2009. The FFirst Anniversary Hell Hole
party was also a fundraiser for Stop AIDS. Booted men in jock straps offered
guests cape cods (a red drink seemed appropriate), appetizers and non-alcoholic
beverages from 8 - 10 p.m. Titan Media and Club Inferno generously donated
product for us to give away as door prizes, and everyone who made at least
a $20 donation to Stop AIDS received a coupon for $5 off admission to
a future Hell Hole party.
September
24, 2009. For almost a year, Hell Hole sponsored monthly Red
Hanky Nites at Chaps II. This evening's co-sponsor was Hot House's Club
Inferno which was debuting a new fisting release, "Up Yours, Part
1" had exclusive Club Inferno models on hand and provided product
for our raffle benefitting the Stop AIDS Project.
That night, Stop AIDS also debuted our booklet entitled, "The Sacred
Art of Fisting: Practical Tips & Considerations for Men Who Engage
in Anal Fisting." The Stop AIDS Project generously provided funding
to print 2,000 copies of the booklet.
October
2009. Another Novice Workshop was held on October 10, to be followed
by at least two more workshops in 2010.
January
2010, Hell Hole parties will move from a once-a-month party to
a twice monthly party on the second and fourth Saturdays. This means we'll
be hosting parties on Pride, Dore and Folsom weekends!
FUNDRAISING:
Since we started, just 18 months ago, we've raised more than $3,000 for
AIDS charities, another accomplishment of which I'm very proud. All "our
share" of the tips from clothes check are donated to charity, averaging
$50 per party.
As this "thing" progressed and grew, it became apparent that
there was a need and a desire for training and information sharing among
fisting peers at all experience levels. A couple of months ago, eight
of us met informally to discuss the viability of a fisting discussion
group. The result of that discussion is The Handball Academy.
Handball
Heaven and Hell Hole are evolving into a logical next step: The
Handball Academy. The domain www.HandballAcademy.org has been
reserved, but is not yet active. The Academy will be taking over all the
safer sex and other educational info that is now found on the Hell Hole
and Handball Heaven websites. In addition, The Academy will be responsible
for conducting the Novice Workshops, including a weekend Fisting Academy
where all topics will be covered in-depth. I'm also hoping to conduct
quarterly panel discussions and skill shares on topics such as:
* A Road Map for
the Journey to Taking or Giving Your First Hand
* Lube: What to use, how to mix it and why
* Tips, Tricks and Practical Considerations for Play; and,
* Hepatitis C Forum: One Year Later. Where are we now?
The Academy will be
not-for-profit and will have a small advisory board. I'm also hoping to
develop some business sponsorships to create a scholarship fund to assist
people who need financial assistance to attend our programs, which range
in cost from free to $25 for Novice Workshops to $100 for the Academy
weekend.
Hell Hole SF will take over the play party aspects of what we do, including
Spring FFling. HandballHeaven.com will become a gateway to both sites.
A paid membership fisting hookup site is currently being contemplated
as an adjunct to the other two. All of this I'm hoping to launch (with
the exception of the paid site) in January 2010.
